speakership blackshards
the blackshards' ritual to welcome a new speaker.
they must first gather the sweet herb, catnip, from the base of the ruins. everyone knows how tantalizing this plant smells to a cat. the new leader must then take their burden to a faraway cave, called the cave of solace. on their journey, the new speaker may not hunt or eat on the way. the journey to the cave must be made within a day and a night. when arriving to the cave, the new speaker will then finally be able to eat their catnip, granting them their seven lives. once the speaker reaches the cave, they may rest and hunt as well as share tongues with the circle of skyshards until they are ready to return to their circlemates.
this strictly solitary ritual tests the speaker's restraint, endurance, and determination. all are useful skills that are essential to gain their circle's respect and attention. should they fail, their ancestors would surely find a way to keep them from leading their circle.
skyseekers
the skyseekers' ritual to welcome a new speaker.
the new speaker journeys with a circlemate they are close with to the cave of solace. this journey may take as long as needed, but is usually not for more than two days and nights, since the new speaker is not allowed to eat or speak on the way. once reaching the cave, the speaker will meet with their ancestors, the skyshards, in sleep. they will be granted seven lives, with much pain and suffering to their hearts. the process is quite taxing to the cat's spiritual self, and some do not survive. once they wake, they will have their seven lives, and will be allowed to hunt and speak again.
this ritual instills much faith in the hearts of the new speaker, and enables them to show their circlemates that they can do anything, skyshards willing.
